It's not a good start to the 2022 season for Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys lost their season opener to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To make matters worse, Prescott got injured in the fourth quarter. 

Prescott injured his finger while throwing in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's game. The injury requires surgery, which the Cowboys quarterback underwent on Monday. Details of that surgery are starting to emerge.

Prescott's injury required a plate and screws to "repair and stabilize" a fracture near his right thumb. The good news is the Cowboys quarterback is not being placed on the injured reserve. 

"#Cowboys QB Dak Prescott required a plate and screws to repair and stabilize fracture near right thumb. Among the reasons he’s not being placed on IR is to allow the flexibility to have him to eventually take practice reps as he gets closer to a potential return to play," said Ed Werder.

The Cowboys are optimistic Dak Prescott can return in four weeks. That's a far better update than the initial six to eight week timeline. 

Dallas, in the meantime, is moving forward with Cooper Rush at quarterback.
